Synopsis

After a disastrous affair, Jack Morgan is at an emotional crossroads. When he's offered a UN posting in Kenya he grabs it, believing time spent on foreign soil will help him forget and move on. But Africa is a land of danger, adventure and temptation, and within weeks of arriving Jack is seduced - by the spectacular Serengeti National Park, the rich Kenyan culture, and a beautiful Maasai woman named Malaika. From an Australian author.

About the Author

Frank Coates was born in Melbourne and for many years worked as a telecommunications engineer in Australia and overseas. In 1989 he was appointed as UN technical specialist in Nairobi, Kenya, and spent nearly four years working, travelling and researching in Africa. Frank now lives in Sydney. This is his fifth novel.

From AudioFile

The adventurous story of an Australian ex-pat describes in rich detail the people and environment he encounters in 1980s Kenya. The whimsical yet ironic excerpts from a fictional East African guidebook sound just right, especially when contrasted with other goings-on, such as ivory smuggling, political corruption, and the prevalence of AIDS. Native Australian David Tredinnick's narration is spot-on. His vocal variety and pacing enhance the story, and his characterization of the main character dramatizes his humanity and vulnerability. Tredinnick's African tribal accents are somewhat uneven, but that's easy enough to overlook. Overall, the novel provides an exciting and multilayered glimpse of Africa.
