William McInnes is one of Australia's most popular stage and screen actors, and with the publication of his memoir A Man's Got to Have a Hobby and his novel Cricket Kings, he has become a much-loved writer too. In 2006 A Man's Got to Have a Hobby was selected as one of the Books Alive 50 Great Reads and William was named 'Australian Newcomer of the Year' at the Austraian Book Industry Awards, and in 2007 Cricket Kings was shortlisted in the 'Australian General Fiction Book of the Year' category for these awards. William received critical and public acclaim for his leading role in the film Look Both Ways, written and directed by his wife Sarah Watt. His roles in SeaChange and Blue Heelers have already made him a household name, as well as roles in Curtin and East West 101. William grew up in Queensland and has travelled extensively throughout Australia. He now lives in Melbourne with Sarah Watt and their two children.
Sam Bailey's plan for a life spent working his Australian farm is derailed by a car accident that leaves him a quadriplegic with one partially functioning arm. After months of therapy, coupled with heavy support from family and friends, he meets a radio personality named Jenny, and his future brightens. Sam doesn't read his own story, but so positive and enthusiastic is William McInnes's performance that listeners will think he does. McInnes's Aussie twang doesn't hurt either. This is a straightforward reading of a straightforward story. Sam's love for Jenny and the land he lives on are evident. Join this "Jackeroo" for an uplifting ride!
