From School Library Journal

Grade 9-12-A thorough, detailed study of the French Revolution and the events leading up to it. The text is divided into 11 chapters, includes extensive sidebars that highlight important personalities of the day, such as Rousseau, Mirabeau, David, Guillotin, and Lafayette, and has an annotated list of further reading. The chronology, at times, disagrees with the text; many of the black-and-white period reproductions are overly dark; and the map of Paris is incomplete. Triumph and Terror is a worthy effort, despite these flaws. However, Susan Banfield's The Rights of Man, the Reign of Terror (Lippincott, 1990) is more readable and will appeal more to this age group than Otfinoski's scholarly treatment.
