Microsoft Office 2000 makes ample use of Web standards to provide collaboration and sophisticated data delivery. Step by Step Microsoft Web Publishing offers an entry-level tutorial to these features. It also serves as a reader-friendly introduction to Web publishing in general.
This package includes a CD-ROM that contains sample files for the exercises in the book as well as a multimedia training program. The interactive course is well-suited to Web novices. The course opens with the basics of Web pages and Web sites, and progresses though the basics of page design and layout to sharing documents and information from Office applications. The book also focuses on PhotoDraw 2000--Office's application that lets you create and manipulate photos and images for use on your Web sites.
While this training set is a great first step in the realm of Microsoft Web publishing, it approaches the topic from an Office 2000 user's perspective rather than a developer's. If you want to go beyond the basics, you'll also need to learn a bit about HTML and JavaScript--topics not covered here. --Stephen W. Plain
Topics covered: Web site planning, page layout, multimedia pages, forms, site management, image manipulation, and integration with Office 2000 applications.
