One day Tiger Baby sets off all by himself to try to see the white mountains that lie beyond the horizon-the same mountains Tiger Baby's mother tells stories about at night under the full moon. Soon he is joined by a kingfisher and a red panda, and the three friends embark on a grand adventure. They are chased by a grumpy leopard, plunged into a chilly lake, and helped on their journey by a brave elephant. Susi Bohdal's appealing animals add an extra measure of warmth to this sweet story about youthful curiosity

Susi Bohdal born in Vienna, Austria, where she now lives. For North-South, she wrote and illustrated 1, 2, 3 What Do You See? which was named an American Bookseller Pick of the Lists.
Kindergarten-Grade 2-Tiger Baby lives with his mother, brother, and sister by a lake under a mango tree. Every night, Tiger Mother tells her children stories about the great white mountains. One day, she goes hunting, instructing her cubs to stay at home until she returns. However, Kingfisher lures Tiger Baby away, taking him to a place where he can see the great white mountains. Along the way, they meet Little Red Panda, escape from a leopard, and climb a steep hill. At the top, they see the mountains in the distance. Night falls, and Tiger Baby spots his family out looking for him. He tells them about his adventures and introduces Kingfisher, his new best friend. Although the tone is a bit saccharine, this well-written story contains universal elements with which children will identify. The realistic watercolor paintings beautifully display the various animals and landscapes in mostly mellow shades.
