Determined to do whatever he wants, a mischievous little boy sends his mother to the moon so that he can have full run of the house, yet as evening arrives and he winds down, he realizes that he was wrong and wishes his mother was there to give him his good night kiss.

Karl Ruhmann was born and grew up in Yugoslavia. He now lives in Switzerland. His other book for North-South is Who Will Go to School Today?
John A. Rowe has illustrated Jasper the Terror and Monkey Trouble.
Kindergarten-Grade 3-When a little boy's mother says "NO" one time too many, he imagines sending her off to the moon. He dreams of a day filled with fun and mischief: finger painting on white walls, making faces at the lady next door, jumping on the bed as high as possible, and going to sleep without washing his face or brushing his teeth. He and his friends "will drink as much cola as we want and see who can burp loudest." In the end, he imagines her back, with the offer, "-if I ever send you off to the moon again, you won't have to fly alone, because I want to come, too. Yes, I want to!" Rowe's wacky pictures are in the same vein as work by Tony Ross and Babette Cole. However, while it may be in keeping with a child's logic, it is confusing that the boy's fantasy includes his mother reading him "a very, very long story" before she returns from exile. Kids may not understand that once he thinks of his mother being there, he wants her to come back after all. A marginal purchase.
