Framing her story within her famous parent's funeral procession, Winston Churchill's daughter recounted her life with one of the twentieth century's greatest statesmen. Childhood at her family estate, her father's often enchanting, sometimes formidable ways with his children, the famous people who came to the house, the splendid talk -- Sarah Churchill evoked all this in loving detail. But perhaps the most illuminating and moving part of her story concerned a holiday she spent with Sir Winston on Lake Como after his defeat in the General Election of 1945, for which she called on hitherto unpublished letters. Sarah Churchill claimed that she contributed no more than a 'thread' to the great tapestry of her father's life. But she was too modest. For the thread she added enriched the whole magnificent tale.
