Grade 1-3--In this easy-to-read book, short chapters introduce readers to England's seasons, family life, government, pets, and tourist sites. A simplified version of the legend of Robin Hood is also included, in addition to a fact page, a recipe, a card game, and a craft activity. There is no mention of the country's history. A confusing explanation of England's geography will leave readers lost in the fens. Many of the facts have been simplified almost into stereotypes (e.g., budgies and corgis are given as examples of pets). The only Internet address is one established by the publisher (Fact Hound) and children must type in the book's ISBN in order to find several preselected Web sites. Large, colorful photos appear throughout. All in all, the writing is flat and uninteresting and the same information can easily be found elsewhere.--Susan Lissim, Dwight School, New York City
