From the new Finding Patterns subseries within the A+ Books umbrella series, this book defines a pattern as a repeated shape or color and offers examples from the animal kingdom. A typical page includes a borderless photo with a line or two of text superimposed. The patterns featured can be as small as the parallel threads of a spider s web or as large as elephants walking in a line and forming a predictable configuration of alternating sizes. Coming from a variety of sources, the color photos are not all equally well chosen, though many are large in scale, eye-catching, and illustrative of points made in the text. The last pages contain a glossary and short lists of books and Internet sites. Other recently published books in the series point out patterns in foods, cities, farms, people, and plants.
