Grade 7 Up—This volume examines the degree to which the environment is in jeopardy, whether global warming should be addressed, the role of the government vis-à-vis conservation, and how society can protect the environment. The first two chapters present affirmative and negative responsive essays. Chapters three and four invoke timely topics such as the Clear Skies Act, drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, renewal of the Endangered Species Act, the cost of renewable energy, organic farming, and fuel-efficient vehicles vs. SUVs. An annotated list of organizations to contact for additional information and a lengthy bibliography are appended.
