Grade 7 Up–Erudite for-and-against essays from various sources. Each book begins with an introduction to the series and then moves on to the specific issue. Chapters open with a question (Do Prisons Protect Public Safety?, Is the Death Penalty Just?) and a related quote. Next are pairs of essays debating various aspects of the question posed. Each essay is preceded by its authors credentials and some questions for readers to consider. Quality black-and-white graphs, editorial cartoons, bulleted lists, and boxed quotes will help students better understand the entries, which may have been edited for length. A periodical bibliography, questions for discussion, and an annotated list of organizations end each chapter.
