Synopsis
The City of Five Seasons, formerly known as the Parlor City, is shown in this book as it developed from a small but thriving community into the metropolis that it is today. The railroads, roads, and waterways leading into and out of Cedar Rapids allowed the city to grow and prosper. The pioneers and early leaders, with great vision and foresight, planned and developed the area, including its wide downtown streets that allowed for easy access into the city. Photographs taken in the past are compared with photographs taken today from the same location, allowing us to see what and where changes have been made.

About the Author
Authors George T. Henry and Mark W. Hunter previously worked together on Images of America: Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Then & Now: Cedar Rapids, both published by Arcadia. Henry is best known for his career as a professional photographer, which spans over 50 years, and for his summer avocation as a white water rafting boatman on rivers of the western states for 45 years. He is also the author of Row Away From the Rocks and Coe College: A Sesquicentennial Look Through 50 Years of George Henry Photography. Mark Hunter, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, started photographing Cedar Rapids and documenting its history in 1977 after watching the demolition of the Taft Hotel. He is presently on the staff of the Carl and Mary Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids as a historian, researcher, and tour guide.

Softcover. Condition: Very Good. Signed, dated, and inscribed on the first (half-title) page to a named individual, by both George T. Henry and Mark W. Hunter. There are two pale brown smudges on the same page and another tiny brown spot on page 75; the book is otherwise clean, with just a touch of shelfwear at the corners of the otherwise excellent soft cover. 96pp., b/w throughout. Can't speak for the other alumni, but when I sing that I pledge my fervent love and loyalty to Coe College, George Henry is one of the people I'm striving to resemble. His photographic chronicle of life at the college, comprising thousands of moving and energetic photographs, tells the college's story like no verbal document could.; Signed by Both Authors.
