About the Author

Dr. Kathryn F. Porter is a Professor of Mathematics at Saint Mary’s College of California, where she has held various positions including Coordinator of the Mathematics Preparation Program for future secondary mathematics teachers, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, and Director of the Liberal and Civic Studies Program. She is currently the Director of Mathematics Readiness.

Dr. Porter earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics at the University of Delaware and her B.S. in Secondary Education and Mathematics at Slippery Rock University. Professor Porter has written many research articles in the mathematical area of topology and has served on numerous committees related to mathematics, teaching, and governance. Professor Porter is one of the founders of the highly regarded Teachers for Tomorrow program at Saint Mary’s College, and has advised future elementary school teachers as well as future secondary mathematics teachers throughout her twenty years at Saint Mary’s.
