About the Author

Ashish Raju was born in India on July 22, 1980. He came to the United States at age two where he later became a citizen. He attended Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, New York and graduated valedictorian in a class of over 800 students. He has appeared in several forms of media from CNN to Newsday. He is a National Merit Scholar, Advanced Placement Scholar, and Brown University Book Award recipient. While in high school, he received numerous awards and accolades that include the Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Medal and James Hacket Award in Oratory. In 1998, Ashish and his team won the New York City Chase Bank Lincoln Douglas Debates by defeating all other public schools in the city.

While in high school, Ashish was involved in several clubs. He was captain and coach of the speech and debate team, editor of the science paper, and member of Arista honors society. After turning down several Ivy League schools, he attended Lehigh University's six-year BA/MD program to pursue a career in medicine. At Lehigh, he has continued to maintain an active role on campus. Ashish is a Dean's scholar, president of his dorm, peer tutor, executive member of the Indian Students Association, tour guide, and member of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society. He also has learned how to play the tabla and classical Indian dance for over four years. His most recent awards include the Haynes Prize in Philosophy and the National Dean's List.

Colleagues and friends describe Ashish as a true "renaissance" man. From dancing to research, he is a truly dynamic individual. After completing his studies at Lehigh this year, he will be attending MCP Hahnemann Medical School in the fall.

Jason Russell Yanofski was born in New York on May 21, 1980. He graduated from West Orange High School in West Orange, New Jersey in 1998 at the top of his class. During high school he was active as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for the West Orange First Aid Squad, aiding his community. He also served as Youth Squad Captain recruiting, training, and leading the rest of the team. Jason participated in scientific research through Rutgers University, helping to genetically determine the phylogenetic tree of the onion. He was active in the National Honor Society and as a captain on the wrestling team. He also took advanced college courses at night, as well as receiving countless academic awards. Jason also worked as a computer consultant and technician for companies as a personal agent.

Jason was accepted into a combined 6-year BA/MD accelerated medical program through Lehigh University in affiliation with MCP Hahnemann University. Impressively, he was able to pass his Medical College Admissions Test requirement the summer before matriculation to college, just after his eighteenth birthday. At Lehigh, Jason was a Dean's scholar and was known as an active student on campus. He was a brother of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity (being the first student in the history of the combined program at Lehigh to pledge) and served as scholarship chair.

Jason is creative, ambitious, and has an unparalleled sense of humor. Everyone who knows him agrees that there is no doubt his ingenuity will take him far in life, within the medical field and outside of it. This book is his first major literary project, and he hopes it will change the lives of his readers.
