The author is a 66 year old grandmother and retired teacher. She lives in a small southern town in Arkansas. She enjoys doting on her four grandchildren. Besides the typical legacy of money and possessions, she wants to give them something special. This turns out to be a book of memoirs of her life while growing up in the South when cotton was king. At an early age recovering from poliomyelitis and the corrective surgeries, she discovers that grandmothers and front porches are extremely important. She is a romantic at heart, and this has guided her through-out the years.
