The heartwarming saga of Imo Lavender and her spirited family continues in a third installment of the beloved Homegrown series. Life is moving on for Imogene Lavender, and reluctantly she leaves her farm in rural Georgia to follow her new husband, Reverend Peddigrew, into town to live in the parsonage. Her struggle to adjust is not what she expects when she begins feeling the all-too-perfect presence of the Reverend's late wife. The move also leaves Imo's niece Loutishie resentful and stretching her faith to find a way back to her beloved farm. Imo's daughter, Jeanette -- a beautician at the Kuntry Kut 'n' Kurl married to a reverend of her own -- is so afraid of becoming a "church lady" that she secretly enters an erotic bull-riding contest. But a devastating event forces Jeanette to see that beauty is not just skin deep, and when Imo's neighbors suffer a great tragedy, she learns what it really means to be a reverend's wife by helping to restore their faith.

The third installment of Cannon's joyous Homegrown series reunites readers with Imo, Loutishie, and Jeannette two years after both Imo and Jeannette have married local ministers. For such high-spirited women, such a course of true love is not running at all smoothly. With Reverend Pettigrew now living on her beloved farm, Imo endeavors to be as exemplary a helpmeet as his deceased first wife was. The struggle to maintain the farm and accompany her husband on his ministerial calls is complicated by the fact that the reverend, at age 75, shows no signs of slowing down, or at least none he'll admit to. Jeannette, too, finds life as a minister's wife more confining than she'd expected, and longs for her fancy-free days. When Pettigrew insists Imo sell her farm to move into his town parsonage, and Jeannette is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, Loutishie is challenged to hold her family together. With such genuinely admirable characters and engaging story lines, Cannon's endearing series is solidly established. Carol Haggas
