Megan Reynolds is going through a bit of a bad patch. Not only has she lost her job (she ran a nonprofit group), her brother appears to have fallen in with a group of terrorists, and he could be responsible for the firebombing of a Hong Kong hotel. Desperately trying to understand what has happened to her brother, Megan discovers that her own past may not be what she thought it was. This is a fast-paced thriller with an engaging story and solidly designed characters. At some moments, the plot seems a bit contrived, but you could say that about most thrillers, and the author pushes through those moments, keeping our focus on the forward motion of the narrative. The book is sure to appeal to Rice’s fan base and, with good word of mouth, might garner readers of James Grippando and Greg Iles. --David Pitt
