PreSchool-- Each of these simple board books encourages children to attempt basic activities: ``Let's try to pat the cat''; ``Can you bite your toes?'' There are only six activities per book, but they are well chosen. Most one or two year olds will enjoy copying the action shown, or at least trying it. A different child is shown in each illustration, allowing for some ethnic diversity. All of them look basically the same, though, with large round heads, dots for eyes, and very rosy cheeks. They lack the personality of Oxenbury's babies. Still, the illustrations are clear, with distinct lines and colors, and toddlers will have no trouble recognizing the kids or their activities. These titles are not as distinctive as Oxenbury's I Can , I See , etc. (Random) or Tana Hoban's What Is It? , : etc. (Greenwillow), but they are solid additions to the genre. --Steven Engelfried, Pleasanton Library, CA
