Synopsis

What exactly is the trouble with elephants? Well, they take up all the room in the bathtub, they eat all the cupcakes at picnics, and they're not very good at hide-and-seek. But for the little girl who tells about them, they're lovable, no matter what they do! Full-color illustrations by the author.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Elephants caper from page to page in this simple but delightful tale. The story begins with a little girl clutching her stuffed toy elephant and grumbling about the trouble with elephants. She goes on to name their many faults while real elephants are shown crowding her out of bed, pilfering her food, and sliding down the banister. Nevertheless, their greatest fault, she finally concludes, is that you can't help but love them. Readers will agree, since Riddell's lively, gleeful elephants are sure to elicit grins. Their jauntiness is the perfect foil for the little girl's irritation. The stuffed elephant at the beginning and end adds a nice touch, gently linking reality to a child's fond fantasy. --Lori A.
