Judy Hindley worked as an editor and writer at Usborne for many years, mainly on non-fiction titles. Ages 5-8. A sweet, summery tale in which the suggestions in the text are taken to wondrous places in the pictures. Rosy decides she needs a new house, so she packs up her books and toys in her wagon and goes out the back door. She finds just the right place, which turns out to be a hollow in a backyard tree. She sweeps, and tidies, and makes a special place to sit and read and think. Then she makes a path of marbles and blocks for her visitors to follow. When Rosy's guests--bears and bunnies, fairies and barefoot boys--do arrive, they come on winged dragonflies and geese, carrying presents and bowls of food. After the visit, Rosy packs up to go back home to Mom, arriving just in time for supper. The sprightly colored pencil-and-watercolor art, in the green-floral hues of summer, is full of nice detail: from Rosy's rosebud-patterned dress to the onion-domed palace Rosy spies in the distance, from whence come her many visitors.
