Synopsis
Two toddlers are on the prowl for a family cuddle in a playful celebration of cozy togetherness that will bring smiles to "monsters" and little ones alike.It's early morning and the adults are asleep. But the little ones are up — and they're on the move. Down the hall, "into the monster's cave" they go. There are scary snores coming from in there, but the toddlers, giggling all the while, creep on in. Sure enough, there's a tumble of tickling and scrambling and mingling and tangling, till the "monsters" finally rise up — and it's time for cuddling, cuddling, cuddling.

PreS. A little red-haired girl and her younger brother wake before their parents. She says to the baby, "Let's play." In a direct text the girl reports how they roll out of bed, crawl down the hall to their parents' room ("the monsters' cave"), and head under the covers "into the lair," where they are tumbled and tickled by parent monsters who enjoy the "the giggling and snuggling" as much as the children do. Vivas, best known for her work with Mem Fox and Margaret Wild, shows her usual verve in the watercolor-and-color pencil illustrations, which use bright shades of red, blue, yellow, and green to capture the action as kids crawl, parents play, and everyone piles together. Baby brother, looks a bit young to be getting in and out of big beds by himself, but it's the delicious sense of fun that kids will respond to--and the book brims with that. Ilene Cooper
