From Library Journal

The good news is that there's plenty of food for everyone. The bad news is that the food is not getting to everyone. The reasons up to a billion people suffer from malnutrition are many. For example, Bennett explains, free food aid subverts the ability of small farmers in poor countries to stay afloat. The "Northern" countries (in Europe and North America) exert damaging financial and political power over the "Southern" countries of Africa and South America. Then there are the disparities within the affected nations, local corruption, poor distribution, etc. Bennett highlights the conditions in Sudan, Bangladesh, and Brazil as typical of this worldwide problem. This thought-provoking book sheds much light on a sad and complicated subject. Daniel LaRossa, Connetquot P.L., Bohemia, N.Y.
