Reviews

Operating like a road atlas, this colorfully illustrated guide explains why attempting to read the Bible from cover to cover rarely works for so many. Most people lose their way through the thicket of ancient laws and lineages, so authors Reid and Manser advocate digesting the Bible in smaller pieces. The authors offer a bounty of historical and cultural insights that provides a valuable context for understanding Bible wisdom. In the process, they deftly explain how Bible manuscripts were heavily influenced by the development of trade and the ascension of major empires and their corresponding languages. For instance, the earliest Bible texts were much like our modern text messageswithout vowels. Perhaps most helpful are the guides explanation of the Bibles many characters and kingdoms as well as its list of suggested psalms that can be used as balms for what ails the soul. An interesting and entertaining work that can provide unlimited insights for individuals as well as Bible study groups. --Susan DeGrane
