About the Author

Legendary acting teacher, director, and actor Lee Strasberg co-founded the Group Theatre and was artistic director of the Actors Studio, working with James Dean, Julie Harris, Jane Fonda, and Joanne Woodward, where he was known for teaching method acting, or The Method. In 1969, he established the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He died in 1982.

From Library Journal

Strasberg's posthumous memoir traces the creation of his famous "Method," the most influential actor-training technique ever developed. At the beginning of his career, Strasberg embarked on a search for the sources of the actor's creativity and a means of consistently attaining emotional truth on stage. His solution, inspired by the work of Stanislavsky's Moscow Arts Theatre, was transmitted to a generation of actors at the Actor's Studio of New York. Strasberg's reminiscences are an exploration of the creative process that will reward all who are interested in the nature of inspiration. Essential for theater collections. Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Lee Strasberg was one of the major figures in 20th century theatre - Artistic Director of the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and the Actors Studio, teacher of some of the world's finest actors and an actor in his own right (he appeared in "Godfather II"). His greatest work was his contribution to the theory and practice of acting. Now, in this posthumously published legacy to the theatre, Strasberg, for the first time in print, explains the art of acting as he came to understand it. Beginning with his own early experiences and his discovery of the actor's central problem - achieving consistency of inspiration - Strasberg analyzes the work of the great Russian director and actor Constantin Stanislavsky and shows how he, Strasberg, and others added to that work to develop the system known as the Method. This is a book which should be of interest to both actors and anyone interested in art and creativity. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR004243127
