Synopsis
'The short narrative explains the patience needed to grow things - a difficult concept for childen - while the glorious illustrations celebrate the natural world' Junior GROW FLOWER GROW! Fran has found a flowerpot and, with her dog Fred, is determined to make whatever is inside it grow. So she decides to give the flower all her favourite foods - spaghetti, ice-cream, pizza - and needless to say none of these work - so Fran throws the flowerpot outside in disgust. Until one day, after some sun and some rain Fran and Fred go outside to a wonderful surprise!

About the Author
The Author: Lisa Bruce is an established author of both picture books and fiction for children, including PIX AND PAX, a young fiction series based on phonic reading, to be published by Bloomsbury in May and June 1999. She has worked as a librarian so is very aware of what children want, and was the co-founder of OKUK Books, the biggest UK internet children's website for selling books. The Illustrator: This is Rosalind Beardshaw's first picture book. Rosalind lives in SaffronWaldon, Essex.

PreSchool-When a little girl finds a flowerpot filled with soil and a tiny green sprout, she announces to her comical pup, Fred, "I will grow this flower." She watches it every day, feeding it all her favorite foods-pizza, cheeseburger, spaghetti, chocolate chip cookies, and strawberry ice cream. The astonished pet watches as she even offers up one of his juicy bones. Finally, when nothing happens, she throws the plant outside in disgust: "Silly flower!" There, nourished by soft rain and warm sunshine, the tiny plant begins to grow and one day surprises Fran with a big, beautiful flower. The expressive, full-page illustrations rendered in creamy primary and pastel colors on textured paper depict the small girl's misguided efforts as well as her ultimate delight. Right on target for a young child.
