Synopsis
Hector is shy! So shy! He can't play with the other sea creatures and he simply wants to be left alone to hide away in his shell - just a little bit sad and lonely. But one morning Hector finds himself to be the very centre of attention when he finds to his alarm that some wonderful flowers have grown on his shell. Try as he might he can't get them to go away. About the Author
Katie Boyce lives in South London where she has recently graduated from art college. Katie is working on her second picture book for Bloomsbury.

PreSchool-Grade 3-Shy little Hector hates attention. But, alas, the fates deal him a terrible blow when flowers start to grow on his shell. Despite his attempts to remove them, more appear and the other sea creatures want a look. When he begs to be left alone, they all admit that they wish they had flowers, too, and he realizes that "Making friends wasn't so difficult after all." While this line seems to be the message of the story, there is little plot development to support it. The busy pictures, done in a style that resembles children's art, are not appealing-the flowers look like striped socks with toes and some sea creatures look like tugboats. A nonessential purchase.
