The wickedest book out this year! A superb anthology of poems selected by the keenly wicked eye of Roger McGough. Poems from Jo Shapcott, Benjamin Zephaniah, Carol Ann Duffy, Shel Silverstein all jostle places with poems from new talent. A brilliant collection that takes wicked at all levels, from cheeky to naughty, from wild to exuberant, to dowright, pure, evil...Wicked!

“Matilda told such Dreadful Lies, / It made one Gasp and Stretch one’s Eyes; / Her Aunt, who, from her Earliest Youth, Had Kept a Strict Regard for Truth, / Attempted to Believe Matilda: / The effort very nearly killed her... ” So begins Hilaire Belloc’s “Matilda,” one of the scores of poems in this wickedly entertaining collection. Roger McGough has delved into the depths of impiety, amassing verse by Shakespeare and Kipling, Nash and Eliot, as well as new works, some written especially for this anthology. Exuberantly illustrated by Neal Layton, Wicked Poems is devilish good fun for both kids and adults. Roger McGough is the author of more than 50 books, including The Kingfisher Book of Funny Poems. He also wrote the script for the Beatles’ film Yellow Submarine and, in 1986, received a Tony nomination for his lyrics for the Broadway production of The Wind in the Willows.
Roger McGough is one of the pre-eminent poets writing today. As one of the Liverpool poets alongside Brian Patten and Adrian Henri, he helped create the art of performance poetry and is now in huge demand for his performances, and his new collections and anthologies are eagerly awaited. He regularly writes and performs on the television and radio, the latest of which is standing in for John Peel on Radio 4's Home Truths. Roger lives with his family in West London.
