This series provides a fascinating inside view of the body and its workings. The use of illustrations on photos give a cutaway three dimensional effect. The text has been carefully written in conjunction with medical consultants.

Gr. 5-9. With big, clear, full-color photos and anatomical diagrams, these titles in the Our Bodies series combine detailed information about human physiology with some practical tips on health. Reproduction discusses the male and female reproductive organs and how they work, the process of fertilization, growth of the embryo and fetus, birth, and stages of life from infancy to adulthood, including a double-page spread about puberty. Skeleton and Muscles takes a look at bones, muscles, and joints; how they are connected and function; and how to keep them healthy. The anatomy is accurate, and the format, with plenty of pictures, diagrams, and magnified photos, is very accessible. There are also lots of lively boxed facts, including comparisons between animals and humans. "Top Tips" hints about health (warm up before strenuous exercise, wear a jockstrap, etc.) bring the science close to readers. Each volume concludes with a glossary and a brief bibliography.
