Gr 3-5--Day has matched easy-to-do tricks with 12 different nations, welcoming his audience to the ``world of magic.'' He introduces each illusion with a short paragraph about its relationship to the given country, but the tricks are not necessarily unique to this collection. The step-by-step instructions are enhanced by the colorful photographs showing multiethnic children of both sexes. The author has had to stretch readers' imaginations a bit by using the ``magic'' of origami to represent Japan, but other examples relate to a country a bit more easily, such as ``The Vanishing Key,'' based on an idea used by German magician Herrmann the Great. The book includes a brief index, bibliography, and list of organizations and clubs. An attractive supplement to any collection.
