Synopsis

In the exciting but sometimes dangerous London of the 1980s, Fitzroy Maclean Angel, jazz trumpet player and illegal taxi driver, meets a beautiful and enigmatic blonde - and that's just the start of his troubles. Hotly pursued by a jail-bird gangster and this thuggish henchman, a maverick cop bent on revenge, and a dogged Inland Revenue inspector, he finds his life becoming more complicated by the minute. And just how an emerald pendant, a women's peace camp and a wad of French francs fit into the picture, he can hardly imagine...

From AudioFile

Considered the funniest crime novelist in Great Britain, Mike Ripley is the author of 10 novels featuring Fitzroy Maclean Angel. JUST ANOTHER ANGEL introduces the roguish hero, who is at times a jazz trumpeter, a hash dealer, a transporter of stolen goods, and, ironically, a tool for the cause of justice. Raymond Sawyer's wonderful voice is not well cast for the rapid-fire patter of Ripley's writing. While his character interpretation and smooth intonation are pleasing, his timing and tone are off-key for this rollicking adventure, and he also struggles against the pops and hisses of poor tape duplication.
