Chris Sorensen, middle manager, closet poet and co-inventor of the Sorensen-Birtwistle Revised Scale of Girl-Rage, has a beautiful girlfriend (Virginia), two affable in-laws (Hugh and Daphne) and a classic sports car with a genuine leather gearstick and one good wing mirror. When Hugh dies suddenly and (after one Irish Cream too many) Daphne reveals a long suppressed secret, a certain irritable French philosopher seems to have words of guidance for Chris. As he and Virginia (and Monsieur Descartes) begin to uncover the truth about Hugh, Chris's own past returns to haunt him.
