The authors discuss a number of different evaluation concepts as well as reviewing several approaches to cost and benefit measurement. An IT Assessment MEtric (ITAM) is proposed which allows firms to measure their progress towards obtaining maximum value from their information technology efforts.

About the Author
Director of Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Information Systems and Computing, Brunel University, UK. He is a non-executive director of a leading engineering company and consults for global organizations such as Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum, DERA, BMW and Adidas.

The effective measurement and management of IT costs and benefits does, more or less, what it says on the tin. First published in 1991 as a guide, it has been radically updated to take account of advances in the understanding of IT project costs and benefits.
The authors look at practical aspects of business case accounting, ranking techniques and user information system surveys.
