Eighteen papers investigate the role of religion and ritual in the prehistory of Ireland, Scotland, England, and elsewhere in north-west Europe. New approaches in archaeoastronomy and archaeomathematics are applied to monuments such as stone circles, passage graves, timber circles, palisaded sites and henge monuments, as well as ceremonial aspects of the manufacture of ritual objects such as stone axes, jet artifacts, ceramics, and wooden idols. A final, more theoretical section assesses prehistoric astronomy, the Celtic ritual calendar, and the orientation of stone age monuments in relation to lunar and solar observations.
