Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The first Jews settled in Golders Green just before the First World War, and by 1930 the suburb had become associated with the English Jewish community. By 1960 the Jewish population of Golders Green had tripled. A century after the arrival of the first Jewish families, the community remains very diverse and is growing rapidly. Golders Green is now the most Jewishly populous neighbourhood in the country. Despite its prominence and its vibrancy, the Jews of Golders Green have not been the subject of a detailed historical study. This book addresses this oversight. AUTHOR: Pam Fox is an experienced writer living in Golders Green. Surrounded by the history and vibrancy of the community, she has been inspired to write about Jewish history. In 2008 she conducted a study on the experience of women rabbis, and started work on the hundred-year history of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue. During 2012 she contributed to the Jewish London guide book. Pam is a Research Fellow at Leo Baeck College and in 2014 was awarded a prestigious month-long Fellowship at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati. Her most recent publication is a biography of Israel Mattuck, which has been favorably reviewed in the journal for the Jewish Historical Society of England, the top Jewish history periodical. SELLING POINTS: . Fills an important gap in Anglo-Jewish history . Detailed history including interviews with past and present residents . Written exactly a century since the first Jewish families began to settle in Golders Green . Potential foreword from Simon Schama, a former resident of Golders Green . Featured at Jewish Book Festival Week 2017 32 colour illustration The first Jews settled in Golders Green just before the First World War, and by 1930 the suburb had been recognised for its significant Jewish community. By 1960 the Jewish population of Golders Green had tripled. Golders Green is now the most Jewishly populous neighbourhood in the country.
