Synopsis
Philip Winter has no other option but to fake his own death - his life as he knows it is over. A mild, sweet-tempered salesman at an elite department store, he never suspects a nicely dressed woman will make a pass at him . . . and then accuse him of rape when he turns down her advances. Even though he is acquitted, he loses everything including his job and his wife's trust. He just wants to disappear, and finds himself joining the lost world of the homeless.

In A Question of Belief, author Margaret Yorke blends two controversial issues--sexual harassment and animal rights--to make a potent modern morality play. Lives intersect with ominous results when a department-store executive falsely accused of sexually harassing a customer fakes his own death; he flees to rural England, where he meets a teenager in the thrall of a fanatical animal-rights activist. This dark tale of twisted psychology and murderous impulse played out against the cozy backdrop of a picturesque English village packs an unexpected punch.
About the Author
Margaret Yorke was awarded the 1999 Cartier Diamond Dagger for her outstanding contribution to the crime fiction genre. She was a past chairman of the Crime Writers' Association and the author of over 50 novels. She died in November 2012.
