This one-volume edition updates and expands most of the entries found in the Chambers Biographical Dictionary (Littlefield, 1974. rev. ed.) and adds new entries on approximately 500 living scientists. The entries for the more recent scientists are generally 20 to 30 percent longer than those for older individuals, but all 2200 entries are well written and reasonably complete. This book contains a chronological list of Nobel Prize winners and a subject index that allows the reader to determine who has worked in what areas (e.g., marine ecology, thermodynamics, chemotherapy). In addition, there is a cross-referencing system so that information does not have to be repeated when several people worked on the same project. Recommended for most libraries.
