Synopsis

The Nearly Dad is about a divorce between Jason and Kat. Both are teachers and therefore not affluent. Hence the Child Support Agency plays a major role as does the issue of women using allegations of abuse as a means to restrict contact. Ann Widdecombe sees her third novel as a novel as contemporary as today's headlines. She comes down firmly in favour of men rather than women as far as the law and society treats husbands in divorce and after.

Review

there's a certain compulsion to her storytelling. -- Clare Colvin * THE DAILY MAIL * You certainly want to know what is going to happen and Widdecombe keeps your attention throughout. -- Maggie Pringle * THE SUNDAY EXPRESS * She has a good eye for detail. -- Julia Flynn * THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH * a fine, bold opening -- Bel Mooney * THE TIMES * Widdecombe is revealed as an accomplished, if sedate, storyteller and also a bit of a romantic. -- Ann Simpson * THE HERALD * authentic, distressing and unexpectedly touching. -- Jane Shilling * THE EVENING STANDARD * Widdecombe tells the story with rattling good pace and creates credible and sympathetic characters. -- Frank Kane * THE OBSERVER *
