Strathalder is a wonderful evocation of life on a Scottish country estate from the 1920s to the 1970s. "I was born and raised on a Scottish country estate where my father was a gamekeeper and my mother tended our home set in the heart of woodland close to the banks of a turbulent river. As a boy I was fortunate to have the freedom of thousands of acres in which to roam." Based on hundreds of interviews from gamekeepers to housekeepers, Roderick Grant creates a poignant and candid picture of a way of life, which still survives in modern times. In addition to the harshness of work on the farms and transformation of the estate into a commercial business he discovered much about the people - their relationships with each other and those they worked for, and also their loyalties and disloyalties.
