About the Author:
Lisa Jewell had always planned to write her first book when she was fifty. In fact she wrote it when she was twenty-seven and had just been made redundant from her job as a secretary. Inspired by Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, a book about young people just like her who lived in London, she wrote the first three chapters of what was to become her first novel, Ralph's Party. It went on to become the bestselling debut novel of 1998. Fourteen bestselling novels later, she lives in London with her husband and their two daughters. Lisa writes every day in a local cafe where she can drink coffee, people-watch and, without access to the internet, actually get some work done . . . Review:
"Her best book yet ... Jewell has moved up a gear into David Nicholls territory." * Bookseller * "Lisa Jewell has a unique gift for creating original, complex characters who actually resemble people we might know. When I read her I realise how few authors can actually do this. This book shows her at the top of her game; The Making Of Us is compelling, clever, humane and heartbreaking. It's a cliche to say I couldn't put it down, but I'm afraid it's true. Wonderful." -- Jojo Moyes "We've been fans of Lisa Jewell for absolutely ages, don'cha know, but we are even more impressed than usual by the latest novel ... Jewell has completely upped her game with this beautifully observed novel." * 5 stars, heat * "Ingenious plotting ... there's no denying the story itself is a compelling page-turner - which should be enough to make for another Lisa Jewell bestseller." -- A.N Wilson * Reader's Digest * "A spirited novel of identity, love and loss." * Woman & Home *
