"I was rather proud of having been referred to as "one o' them girls in blue"! I smiled to myself, filing it away in my mind to tell my mother about when next I wrote." Pat Lacey grew up in Abergavenny in the years leading up to the Second World War. Her first job was as a telegraphist and the desire to sign up when war broke out eventually saw her assigned to the WAAF as a teleprinter at RAF Benson. Taking her trusty bike "George" with her she made many friends, learning to dance and stepping out with boys. Pat shares her war years, the loss of her older brother, her first taste of alcohol and even her first holiday abroad in this warm-hearted memoir.
