Synopsis
Beyond the Beeches is a nostalgic reminder of a world of cart-horses, oil lamps and rural living. Norah rejects the belief that a girl's place is in the home as her parents struggle to get her a secondary education and eventually a college place to train as a teacher. She tells of the catastrophic intrusion of the Great War (1914-18) to Somerset life and, as the country strives towards recovery, Norah faces her first teaching job - and falls in love.
