From Booklist

This attractive, large-format book takes advantage of children's natural abilities as scientists and the availability of bathrooms as accessible laboratories. Each double-page spread explores a question such as why boats float, how soap cleans people, why skin turns red in hot water, why the water gets cold, and how a toilet flushes. Explanations in the text are well supported by colorful, cartoonlike drawings and diagrams. Apart from a couple of minor problems, such as translating Archimedes' exclamation "Eureka" as "I've done it" rather than "I have found it," the information appears to be accurate as well as interesting. Simple activities, illustrated step-by-step, support the text with opportunities for hands-on learning without elaborate equipment or preparation. A winsome invitation to learn about science through play. Carolyn Phelan
