9780753800362: English Landscapes

Synopsis

A magnificent photographic journey recording the beauty and diversity of the English countryside. Now in paperback, featuring 200 color photographs. Rob Talbot and Robin Whiteman have again merged their talents to capture the spirit and splendor of rural England: the lush scenery and fine architecture of Wessex; the spectacular waterfalls and secluded valleys of the Lake District; the wooded hills and rugged coastal plains of the southern counties. Talbot's gorgeous display of color photography is perfectly complemented by Whiteman's text, which brings to life each region--its history, literary and artistic connections, geography, geology, architecture and local customs. A glorious hymn to the English landscape. Among Rob Talbot and Robin Whiteman's many collaborations are The Cotswolds, The English Lakes, and Lakeland Landscapes. 160 pp 10 x 11 1/2 200 color photos

About the Author

Robin Whiteman and Rob Talbot have been working together for over ten years, producing books which chronicle the beauty and diversity of the British countryside. They have distinguished themselves as regional chroniclers of the highest order, combining words and pictures to exalt the splendour of the British Isles. Robin Whiteman and Rob Talbot have both distinguished themselves as a regional chronicler and outstanding landscape photographer respectively, with their Country Series collaborations. Their work has met with great critical acclaim and together they have produced nine other Country Series volumes: The Cotswolds, the English Lakes, The Yorkshire Moors and Dales, the Garden of England, The West Country, Wessex, The Heart of England, the Peak District and England.

From Booklist

A lengthy working partnership between Talbot and photographer Robin Whiteman has produced a series of books celebrating radiant English scenes. In their latest collaboration, these two discerning guides pool their vast knowledge to cover the country from Lindisfarne Castle in Northumberland to the prehistoric monuments of Land's End, Cornwall. Even as pollution, litter, and real estate development threaten to endanger the natural beauty of England's countryside, there remains a great deal to be admired. Distinguished by rich tapestries of color, Whiteman's landscape photographs record the implied textures of craggy bluffs, moors bedecked in heather, and still, glassy lakes. Talbot's text interweaves the fabric of myth with historical fact to provide appealing narratives that further describe each inviting photographic vignette. Alice Joyce
