Synopsis
These poems are a written record of a soldier's experiences in the Second World War in the years 1944 and 1945. These poems are an expression of his sense of the immanence of the soldier's final sacrifice. The Kaddish is a Jewish prayer for the dead which extols the universal God. As used in this collection it refers to the Job-like role in which the soldier finds himself. The poems are his cry for life, each piece a singular expression of his sense of desperation and final resignation. It is hoped that, as the reader progresses through the collection, he or she will keep in mind this statement.
