Synopsis
Still reeling from the tragic death of their much-loved colleague, Skinner's men are about to discover that a disturbed serial killer is still at large and very close to home.
It's the second week of July Trades Holiday in Edinburgh when Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner and his men get a call informing them that the body of a young woman has been found on a golf course. It's been there for ten days so she's not a pretty sight. But the way she has been laid out is uncannily familiar. The body has been 'composed', just like the bodies of three other young women in a previous case. Could it be the work of a copycat killer? The murder victim is an art teacher who was having a relationship with the son of a Tory MP. Her ex-boyfriend is a policeman with a reputation as a serious womaniser. It seems the murder trail is getting much too close for comfort...

About the Author
Quintin Jardine was born once upon a time in the West - of Scotland rather than America, but still he grew to manhood as a massive Sergio Leone fan. On the way there he was educated, against his will, in Glasgow, where he ditched a token attempt to study law for more interesting careers in journalism, government propaganda, and political spin-doctoring. After a close call with the Brighton Bomb in 1984, he moved into the even riskier world of media relations consultancy, before realising that all along he had been training to become a crime writer. Now, forty novels later, he never looks back.
Along the way he has created/acquired an extended family in Scotland and Spain. Everything he does is for them.

DCC Skinner is shaken when the circumstances of a new murder in Edinburgh--a young, female artist found naked with her body peacefully composed--strongly resemble cases that were closed when the suspected serial killer was found dead. Narrator James Bryce portrays Skinner's skill and self-assurance, developed over years of experience on the force, but he really shines when Skinner's confidence is shattered by evidence that points to HIM. Bryce's variety of Scots and English voices adds needed cohesion to the large cast of characters in this novel, and his lively narration enhances dry descriptions of police procedures.
