The dogs in the art of Keith Haring are anthropomorphic: dancing, laughing, ogling, & showing off - -they were on occasion an alter-ego of sorts. Here paired with quotes from Haring's journals, we can see in these drawings the joy & inspiration he found in his friends. These drawings provide a touching & funny counterpoint to his more monumental work. Born in 1958, by the time Haring came to N.Y. in 1978 to attend the School of Visual Arts, he had developed a style of simple outline drawing that derived from Disney cartoons & the sophisticated ''primitivism'' of such artists as Pierre Alechinsky & Jean Dubuffet. Swept into the downtown culture of punk & new wave music, he began to translate the street culture of N.Y. into his art. Compact format.

About the Author:
Keith Haring came to New York in 1978 to attend art school. Inspired by the graffiti artists he first entered public awareness via the drawings he executed on blank advertising panels in the subway. Haring died leaving a thriving legacy.
