About the Author
Michelle Knudsen is the author of many books, including the fantasy novels The Dragon of Trelian and The Princess of Trelian. She is also the author of the New York Times bestselling picture book Library Lion, illustrated by Kevin Hawkes, as well as the picture books Argus, illustrated by Andréa Wesson, and Big Mean Mike, illustrated by Scott Magoon. Kindergarten-Grade 2 - Dan has a problem - it's his mother's birthday and he has no money to buy her a gift. On his way to school, he notices lots of earthworms on the sidewalk. His brother sneaks one into his pocket and Dan discovers it when he arrives in his classroom. The kids place the worm in a jar and Ms. Stewart encourages her students to research this animal. As he learns about worms, Dan realizes that they would make the perfect present for his mother, who is an avid gardener. Information about these creatures is woven into the narrative and additional facts appear on some of the pages, bordered by pink, rectangular-shaped worms. Amusing cartoon illustrations in bright hues show the characters in action and help create the mood for this funny tale.
