Wine Lessons represents a departure for me, although I've been teaching a wine course since 2002. My other publications include literary analyses, teaching methods, and a historical novel, Terra Firma. Wine Lessons is a labor of love on a topic about which I've become passionate: enjoying wine as a way to enjoy life. While many wine books are large format and concentrate on one area of the world or one topic (wine and food), I decided to write a book that was compact so you could take it with you when you travel or commute. I wanted this book to be a sort of conversation between me and the reader, almost like sharing a nice glass of wine with each of you.
"I was not surprised at all to read that some of Clara Orban's favorites are sparking wines; it matches her bubbly personality, that echoes through her vibrant and transparent style of writing: this book reads like a passionate love story . .. for wine . . . Never feel awkward among wine connoisseurs anymore; in her transparent, vibrant style, Clara Orban takes you on a wonderful journey through the world of wine, that more than any other food has been so closely intertwined with human culture . . . The most important message; wine is not for snobs, but for wine lovers, although some know-how might help to experience and appreciate wine in all its aspects even more. As the author herself states: 'Wine should be discussed, savored, respected, but above all shared. That, I believe, is the essence itself of passion.'"Aaltje van Gastel, M.A.Advisor, Media and CommunicationsFormerly of Utrecht and Rotterdam Universities, Netherlands, and UVN Media
