Dear reader,
Almost ten years ago, I thought it would be interesting to have a cop perform autopsies and solve murders. This presented me with a few problems.
You see in order to perform autopsies one must be a Doctor. The idea of a man who went to medical school and then into the Police seemed farfetched. I toyed with the idea of making the character a Private Investigator and the notion that a retired Pathologist with a P.I. license who solved suspicious accidental deaths was to me, very plausible.
The next step was to decide on a city for the character to operate out of. I’d been impressed with San Francisco and its diverse ethnic makeup for some time and immediately chose it.
So that was it. A retired Pathologist turned P.I. solving accidental and sometimes not so accidental deaths in San Francisco.
With regards to the story, I liked the idea of a body without identification being unearthed after decades and having to find out not only who the person was, but also who killed them and why. With the realization that the killer, still alive after decades of having “gotten away with it,” threatened by this Dr. P.I., would go after the Doctor, I knew I had my story.
And that’s all I’ll give away. I hope you enjoy the book.Happy reading.
Sincerely,
David Feeney
