Whether it’s geared up for racing, tricked out as a pit bike, used to teach kids how to ride, or simply to take a spin, the small motorcycle takes as much care as its full-size counterpart. This book, by one of the world’s foremost off-road motorcycle builders, tells you everything you need to know to keep your mini-motocross or playbike running smoothly, safely, and, of course, in style.
This comprehensive handbook, the first of its kind, covers a variety of models--mini motocross racers from 50cc to 100cc, and small playbikes from 50cc to 250cc. A complete buying guide helps readers determine which of the small motorcycles best suit their needs. The book provides clearly detailed information on maintenance schedules, procedures, and the tools, materials, and space you’ll need. Going that extra mile, Forward Motion’s Eric Gorr offers model-specific suggestions for modifying the bikes to improve performance on and off the racetrack. He also includes sample builds of some of the most popular race and playbikes on the market.

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Mini Motocross and Pit Bike Performance Handbook. This is the junior book to the best-selling, award-winning Motocross and Off-Road Performance Handbook that covers bigger dirt bikes. This book was written with parents in mind. My goal was to help them deal with the routine of caring for dirt bikes and to encourage interaction between parents and kids. The "maintenance monster" is the toughest part of the sport and it's the biggest source of emotional stress between kids and parents. The information covered in this book ranges from basic to intense. Each chapter starts out with basic things that anyone can do and wraps up with tips geared for professional race mechanics and tuners. If you're new to the sport and haven't purchased a bike yet, the first few chapters will help you figure out what is the best bike for your riding needs and how to evaluate used bikes, purchase a new one, and perform the basic maintenance necessary to keep it running. The middle chapters of this book will introduce you to the major maintenance issues that need to be addressed in one- and two-year cycles unless you are racing, then it becomes a weekly routine. Finally the last group of chapters deals with specific models, which parts are likely to break and why, and how to correct these flaws with the best aftermarket accessories or original parts.
